Special Educational Needs
Innovative, personalised and supportive programmes of support; a family orientated centre of learning and a secure environment for the ongoing development of a positive academic self-image. Our Special Needs Department is described as a ‘model of inclusion’ and we constantly strive to improve upon this and pursue all avenues to enable us to best meet the needs of all of our pupils.
Our consistent and thorough approach to supporting pupils encountering both social and academic difficulties, ensures that all pupils are given the very best opportunities to make progress towards individual targets.
Young people are at the very heart of everything we do and breaking down the barriers to their learning is our absolute priority. Small class sizes, a differentiated curriculum, in class support and targeted interventions enable us to include children successfully within this mainstream environment.
We have a strong team of teachers and teaching assistants, all very skilled and regularly trained in offering specific programmes to support any special educational need including:
Communication/Speech and Language
Handwriting and difficulties with fine and gross motor skills
Emotional/behavioural and social difficulties
Physical and sensory impairments
Specific learning difficulties
Autistic spectrum disorder
We work proactively with external agencies to gain expertise and professional advice and all staff are encouraged to develop their knowledge of SEN through local, national and school based training sessions. We also work closely with our primary colleagues to provide optimum transition support
Our commitment is to include all pupils in our ‘family’ thus making their experience of school and education a positive one which prepares them personally, socially and academically for education and life post 16.
